Our apartment is adorable and there is plenty of room for us and Grace, who we are staying with. The first night, Grace made us homemade Italian pasta which was very good, especially because we were very hungry. Italy is beautiful and most of the cliches from the movies are true. Pretty much everyone says “Mamma Mia” and “Va bene.” We are already picking up an accent and learning Italian quickly. Very few people in town speak English so at the stores and food places we speak Italian. One couple in our group here, Deborah and Leonardo have been like Italian parents to us. They make sure we know where to go and what to do and made us lunch the second day. They are very sweet and we couldn’t have adjusted without them. Jocelyn and I make tea every morning because the apartment is chilly. (Although the thermostat is set to 70 degrees C/ 158 degrees Fahrenheit...it must not work lol) The balcony is warm so we ate lunch out there our first day. We have a bus pass so we can take the bus into town and we are getting better at it. The refugees are very respectful of the Bible and many are looking forward to the memorial. Most of them speak pidgin English, which we are learning. For example, to ask someone how they are feeling you say “How your body da?” So we are learning many things and making many friends. More to come! Ciao :)
