Day One:
I got in late last night to my friend Vanessa’s apartment. She’s from Ohio so it was so nice to see her again! I started this morning off with sleeping in, the jet lag isn’t too bad because it’s basically the same hours, just completely reversed. After resting a while, I went with my friend‘s Roomate to a place called “Mama’s breakfast lunch.” I ordered a “burrito” with blueberry, chicken and cheese.
After brunch, I turned in my last final project of the semester - yay! I then rested a bit and did some work. Then I decided to venture out. Not far from here, there’s the inner-city of Taipei. I took a bus to Taipei 101, which is a 101 story building, next to the World Trade Center.
It was so beautiful all lit up! It was a bit windy today, making the 60’s feel a little chilly, but much warmer than Ohio, of course. Once inside Taipei 101, I got some bubble tea from a place called Kung Fu Tea. I ordered ”Oreo WOW tea.” It was good but it wasn’t wow- good.
After making it back to the apartment, I took a quick nap. Once my friend returned, we went to a night market! For those who don’t know, Taiwan is famous for its night markets. The streets are full of vendors, there is food and clothing options, souvenirs, decorations and street performers. Taiwanese people LOVE foreigners. There were even two Americans offering free hugs; they had a long line of Taiwanese excited to hug an American.
After watching a few performances and walking around, we decided to eat at TGI Friday’s, where I ordered bruschetta. It was good, just surprisingly spicy.
We wrapped up the day with taking the MRT (Taiwan’s subway system) back to the apartment and now it’s time for bed! Tomorrow, I will take a train to Kaohsiung city, my home for the next three months.
