Rooftop/ Boat ride views

Updated: Feb 9, 2020

The one and only Kaohsiung City. In the pictures below, you will see views of Love River. This river was named for historical reasons and the following legend: A man lived on one side of the river, his soulmate on the other. The two were unable to be together so they decided to jump in the river and drown, and forever protect the love of those who travel down the river. (Or something like that.) In Taiwan, you will see the word LOVE everywhere! There are so many random signs that say love, love lookouts, love rivers, lights in the shape of the word, etc. From Dec. 6 to Jan. 5 there is even a love concert every night in Central Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. People here just love love, or at least the letters

L-O-V-E. It is unique, but it has been a great conversation starter!

The view from a nearby rooftop, as shown in the picture above, was pretty rad. I could feel the wind start to pick up and make my hair go crazy as I took in my surroundings. I sometimes forget I’m in such a big city. The people here are the opposite of confrontational. They will go out of their way to help you, but they all kinds just do their own thing. With that being the case, you don’t see as many people as you would expect in a city with a population of 2.7 million.

While walking by the river I heard a crowd of people counting down. Although this was only slightly alarming because I had no clue what was happening, I was pleasantly surprised to see water, lights and colors orchestrated in a magnificent way, coordinating with music. This water concert was so cool and impressive.

My friend Julia and I went for a ride on a boat down the river, for an even more up-close view of the show and the city.

Check out our view from the boat!

After Julia’s sister joined us, we all went to do some shopping. To get to the grocery store, the three of us piled on an electric scooter: So. Fun. However, as we were nearing our destination, the battery of the scooter died. Thankfully we were almost there. We put it somewhere safe and kept up our sense of adventure. Such a nice day and a nice evening. This city is a really neat place to experience.
